This book is a collection of topics fundamental for the characterization of biomaterials, contributed by the experts in the respective fields. It covers different characterization methods – from microscopy and scattering techniques for structural analysis, to important biological assays, and regulatory aspects of safety and biocompatibility of materials. What you will NOT find in this title are methods for mechanical characterization or protocols targeting degradation behaviour of biomaterials. But then again, these topics are already published in abundance. A large part of the book is dedicated to characterization methods essential for investigating interaction of cells, including stem cells, with biomaterials and monitoring cell response. Brief, yet very well-written and useful overview, suitable for specialists as well as researchers new to the field.
